The care that keeps your smile healthy

Maybe you're due for a cleaning, or a tooth has started to feel sensitive when you drink something cold. Our general dentists in Milford and Henniker handle both, along with the checkups and fillings that keep small problems from turning into bigger ones.

As your Milford general dentist, we look past cavities to your gums, your bite, and signs in your mouth that can point to changes in your overall health. Before we start any treatment, we get to know you: your health history and what you'd like from your visits.

What happens at your checkup

A checkup with your Milford general dentist or our Henniker team follows five steps.

  • 01

We go over your health history and what you'd like from your visits.

  • 02

Your hygienist cleans your teeth and checks your gums.

  • 03

We take digital X-rays and look at them with you on screen.

  • 04

Your dentist examines your teeth, gums, and bite.

  • 05

We talk through what we found and agree on next steps before any treatment starts.

What general dentistry covers

Our general dentistry team in Milford and Henniker handles the routine and restorative work that keeps your teeth healthy and strong, all under one roof.

Checkups, cleanings, fillings, and our comfort menu are available at both offices. Same-day crowns are made at our Milford office.

Cleanings and exams

Regular cleanings, comprehensive exams, and digital X-rays form the backbone of preventive care at both our Milford and Henniker offices. They catch problems early, before they become bigger ones.

We also place sealants and make custom nightguards and sports mouthguards.

Emergency Dentistry

Cracked tooth, sudden pain, lost crown, knocked-out tooth. Call us first. At Family Dental Care of New Hampshire, we do everything we can to see emergency patients the same day.

Sedation Dentistry

If you're nervous about the dentist, or it's been years since your last visit, nitrous oxide can help you relax through cleanings, fillings, and longer treatments.

Dentures

Custom partial and full dentures made to fit your mouth and look natural, including implant-supported dentures that snap into place for a more secure fit.

TMJ Treatment

If you wake up with a sore jaw, hear clicking when you chew, or get frequent headaches, your TMJ may be the cause. We offer custom appliances and conservative treatments to help.

Fillings, crowns, and bridges

A small cavity gets a tooth-colored filling, and a larger one may need an inlay or onlay. A crown protects a tooth that's too damaged for a filling, and a bridge replaces a missing tooth. At our Milford office, we can design, mill, and place a same-day crown in one visit.

Root canals

If a tooth throbs or stays sensitive to hot and cold, the nerve inside may be infected. A root canal treats it so you can keep the tooth.

Gum disease treatment

Gums that bleed when you brush can be an early sign of gum disease. We treat it with deep cleanings and laser gum therapy.

Extractions

When a tooth is too damaged, infected, or crowded to keep, we make sure you're numb and comfortable, remove it gently, and talk through options for replacing it, like a bridge, a denture, or an implant.

Cosmetic and specialty care

When you'd like a brighter smile, or you need implants or sleep apnea treatment, our team offers that care too.

“From the moment I called, I was treated so kindly. Heather set me up with a new patient visit right away and on a Saturday! Danika at the front desk was so friendly and gave me a wonderful tour! My dental hygienist, Meiber, was very gentle with my teeth, and the dentist, Dr. Shedd, gave me positive feedback! Very grateful I made the switch; thank you all!”

Amazingly comfortable seats with warming and massage options. A lot of comfort options for people with dental anxiety. They were super sweet to my 3-year-old, who tagged along with me as well.”

FAQ

Things you might be wondering

We recommend a checkup and cleaning every six months for most patients. If you have specific concerns like gum issues, recent dental work, or higher cavity risk, your general dentist may suggest seeing you more often. Regular visits also let us catch a worn filling or early gum inflammation while it's simple to treat.
Yes. Our general dentistry team in Milford and Henniker works with patients of all ages, from young children to grandparents, and we tailor each visit to the patient in the chair. Babies can come in for a short first visit with a Milford general dentist, where we count teeth and answer your questions.
At Family Dental Care of New Hampshire, we meet you where you are. If it's been a year, five years, or longer, you'll be welcomed without judgment. We'll get you caught up on a cleaning, take a look at what's going on, and put together a plan that fits your priorities.
Yes. We use digital X-rays at both offices, which use a fraction of the radiation of traditional film X-rays. The images are clearer too, which means we catch things sooner and more accurately. The image appears on a screen within seconds, so we can walk you through what it shows.
Yes. Nitrous oxide is one of the mildest and most widely used options in dentistry. You breathe it through a small nose mask, and it helps you relax while you stay awake and able to talk with us. It wears off within minutes once the mask comes off, so most patients can drive themselves home.
